Week at a Glance

  January 28     Letter Gg     Letter Gg was worked on this week, the action we learned to help us remember the letter G sound was to pretend we were gliding through the air like a goose. Ask your child what the two possible sounds are for the letter G.     Number 7     We worked on number 7 this week.  Ask your child what pictures they drew to represent number 7.     Literacy Day     Wednesday was Family Literacy Day.  The grade ½ students in rooms 9, 10, 11 put on a virtual assembly and we were also treated to a story read by Ms. Durnford and Ms. Weir.     Crazy Hair Day      We read a few Crazy Hair Day stories! In our Journal, we drew a self-portrait of either the crazy hair we had for the day or the crazy hair we wished we had.   January 22       Numbers 5 and 6     We worked on numbers 5 and 6 this week.  Ask your child what pictures they drew to represent numbers 5 and 6     Letter B     This week we focused on the letter Bb. Ask your child what pictures they drew in their workbooks that began with the letter B and if they challenged themselves to copy the word down too!     Be Kind      We read books about Kindness and talked about how to be a good friend on the playground.  We recorded our ideas in our journal.  Ask your child what their illustration was about.     The Mitten     We listened to a new version of The Mitten and talked about what was the same and different between the two versions. Ask your child if they can remember a similarity or difference between the two versions.     Valentine's Day     The last day of school before Valentine's Day will be Wednesday February 10.  We will do some in class activities to recognize the day.  There will be more information provided by the school, ho

    January 15     Letter Ff   This week we focused on the letter F. Ask your child what pictures they drew in their workbooks that began with the letter F and if they challenged themselves to copy the word down too!     Journal   We asked the children to tell us if they liked or didn't like online learning last week. It was fun to see what their responses were and how they represented their response with an illustration in their Journal. Ask your child what they said.      Math   We worked with five frames and subitizing (recognizing numbers at a glance) up to 5. The children learned how to represent numbers 1-5 on a five frame in many different ways as well as how to show numbers using not just one hand but both  ie : 5 can be shown with 5 fingers on one hand or 2 fingers on one hand and three fingers on the other.      We also read the book 'What comes in 2's, 3's, and 4's' before practicing writing the numbers 3 and 4 .
